2011 Department Recognition

4th Quarter - Orthopedics

The ICARE Department of the Fourth Quarter 2011 is our Orthopedics/Surgery Department, also known as 2 South. The 2 South staff received numerous ICARE nominations during the fourth quarter that commended them on the exemplary service they provided their patients. The department was recognized for quality, compassion, professionalism and teamwork, just to name a few. Thank you to the 2 South team for living our ICARE standards and maintaining the reputation that GCMC is known for.

3rd Quarter - Laboratory

The ICARE Department of the Third Quarter is our Laboratory. The Laboratory staff has worked very hard to maintain high levels of accuracy and turn-around time. Our lab is a leader in the turn-around times for all departments, but especially for our Emergency Department where time can be critical. Their rapid support of the ED increases patient satisfaction by decreasing wait times. Also, our lab has passed all national certifications by maintaining a high level of quality. In addition, lab staff has helped cross train students in microbiology.

2nd Quarter - NICU

Our ICARE department of the second quarter is our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Gulf Coast Medical Center is the region’s only Level II NICU. Our NICU team understands intimately the special care and attention critically ill babies require. We also understand the special concerns this time may create for families.

For every baby in the NICU, there is a family that needs comfort and support. The NICU staff – including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, a nurse manager, physical and occupational therapists and the pharmacy staff – work together as a team to provide support to our NICU patient and their families.

The NICU team is being recognized this quarter because their service and customer care consistently exceeds our customers’ expectations. Each quarter, several ICARE cards are submitted for individuals in the NICU who have “Wowed” someone. These individual acts of kindness and compassion add up to a unit that is exceptional.

1st Quarter - Imaging Services

Imaging Services is the ICARE Department of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2011. They support the Emergency Department, the Operating Room and the inpatient nursing units. Their rapid support of the ED increases patient satisfaction by decreasing wait times. They are involved as a department in community service with staff actively engaged in fundraising and attendance at events. They continue to have excellent patient satisfaction scores in all service areas.
