2010 Employee Recognition

1st Quarter - Aaron Redmond

Aaron Redmond

Aaron came to work at Gulf Coast Medical Center in September of 2009.  He is a Nurse Tech in Stepdown Unit while he attends school to become a nurse. Aaron has a compassionate nature and goes the extra mile to provide care and comfort to his patients and their families.  He has been known to visit with patients on his meal break just to give them a little company. As one director said, “We need more like him.”

2nd Quarter - Leah Mazur & Ricky Laymon

Leah Mazur
ICARE corecipient Leah Mazur with CEO Brian Baumgardner

A member of our NICU team really “Wowed” a new mom and dad who gave birth to a premature baby while on vacation in the area. Leah Mazur, not only provided excellent care to this newborn and support to the parents. Once the baby was able to go home, the parents had arranged for a ride home. When that ride fell through, Leah offered to take them home. And that’s just what she did. On her day off, she drove this new family all the way to Tennessee.  Leah, when it comes to the ICARE standards, you not only talk the talk, you walk the walk. Thanks for going the extra “miles” for this family.

Our corecipient is Ricky Laymon. Ricky works in our Recovery Department.  Ricky was nominated by a patient’s parents. The parents, who live miles away, wrote a letter to our CEO, Brian Baumgardner stating how grateful they were that Ricky took their son under his wing and made sure he was cared for and that their son made it home safely. Once their son recovered, it was a challenge to get him back home. That’s where Ricky really helped out. He helped make arrangement for the young man to get home and he kept the parents informed each step of the way so they did not worry about their son. These parents felt relief and profound gratitude that their son had his very own guardian angel, Ricky. Unfortunately Ricky was unavailable for a photo)

3rd Quarter - Dianne Brennan

Dianne Brennan came to work at GCMC in August of 1988 as a Unit Secretary. She transferred to the Emergency Department in 1999 and has been a valued member of that team since.

As a member of our Emergency Department team Dianne Brennan really “Wowed” another employee. Our Emergency Department staff was having a difficult time communicating with a deaf patient and everyone was getting frustrated. Dianne came to the rescue and helped calm the patient and communicate with the patient using sign language. She helped everyone to effectively treat this patient and turn a frustrating experience for the patient into a positive one. Dianne, your awareness of this patient’s situation and what you did to help her through it are our ICARE standards at work. Way to go!!!

4th Quarter - Amanda Krans

Amanda Krans

The recipient of the Fourth Quarter ICARE Employee of the Quarter went the extra mile to make one of our young patients feel much better. Amanda Krans is a nurse in our Pediatrics Unit. Her patient lost a tooth and was very disappointed that the tooth fairy would not come to the hospital. After Amanda finished her night shift, she came back to the hospital with 2 cupcakes and a balloon from the tooth fairy. The patient was very happy to wake up and see that the tooth fairy had, indeed, remembered to stop by. Amanda, this act of kindness is what our ICARE standards are all about. Thanks for making this young patient’s day!
