2009 Employee Recognition

1st Quarter Becky Palmer, Case Manager

Becky Palmer, Case Manager

Becky Palmer is a member of our Case Management team.  An employee in our AHC unit sent in an ICARE card to recognize Becky’s compassion and respect.  An AHC patient was very near death, and the patient’s daughter had just arrived in town.  The daughter was alone and, understandably, very upset.  Becky stayed with the daughter offering her support and care unto the wee hours of the morning until other family members arrived. Becky displayed the true meaning of our ICARE standards that night.

2nd Quarter Tammy Satterwhite, LPN

Tammy Satterwhite, LPN

Tammy Satterwhite is an LPN in our Med/Surg Nursing Unit.  A patient wrote this about Tammy, “She is one of the most caring, professional nurses I have met.  She is an honor to be treated by. No matter how bad I feel, she can put a smile on my face.” Another patient wrote, “Tammy explained everything she was doing to me so not to scare or upset me.  She made sure I had all meds and brought me ice cream.  Tammy was very caring and she gave my wife peace of mind…” Tammy the way you perform your job exemplifies the ICARE Values.  You not only take care of your patients but you take care of their family members as well.

3rd Quarter Calvin Callahan

Calvin Callahan

An employee wanted to recognize Calvin Callahan, a member of our Surgical Services staff.  According to this employee, on a late Friday afternoon, Calvin went above and beyond the call of duty to assist the Emergency Department.  He provided excellent interdepartmental cooperation and was able to resolve what appeared to be an insurmountable problem.  As a result, the patient, and his family, as well as the Emergency Department staff were exceedingly thankful and pleased.  Thanks, Calvin, for lending your expertise to resolve this matter for our patient.  Your actions really highlight our feeling that Gulf Coast Medical Center is where the Experts Are.

4th Quarter Emily Anderson, RN

Emily Anderson, RN

Emily Anderson works in our Women’s Center.  We recently received a letter from a woman (and nurse) who delivered her 2nd child at GCMC.  She was apprehensive about her post labor care.  While she recognized that the entire Women’s Center staff was great, Emily put her concerns to rest. According to this patient, Emily was immediate in addressing all of her needs.  Even at the end of her shift, Emily came back to the patient’s room to congratulate the new mom and wish her and the family good luck, which meant the world to the patient, making her very special. This is the personification of our ICARE standards of compassion, respect and excellence.
