2008 Employee Recognition

1st Quarter - Jimmy Turner, Cook

Jimmy Turner, Cook

Jimmy joined our team in October 2007 as a cook on our food services department. He was nominated by an employee who was impressed by his compassion and integrity. The breakfast line was basically closed and nothing really left on the bar. This employee asked if there were any omelets left at all and Jimmy stated no, but if you have 8 minutes to spare I can cook you one. This was done with a positive attitude and a smile. Jimmy comes to work with a positive attitude and a smile on his face every day. If you are not a morning person, you can’t help but to become one once you see him. He works very hard and never complains. We'd like to extend great thanks to Jimmy for his dedication and willingness to go beyond the call of duty.

2nd Quarter - Lori Castillo, Radiology Assistant

Lori Castillo, Radiology Assistant

We are proud to recognize Lori Castillo as our winner for the second quarter of 2008. Lori joined Gulf Coast Medical Center in August of 2001 and is currently a Radiology Assistant at our Diagnostic Center. Lori received a wonderful patient letter who stated that she had a very caring attitude and quick action. This particular patient was in need of a second opinion on a CT scan that was completed at Bay. A friend of the patient referred her to that Diagnostic Center and to Lori. In just a few hours Lori had reviewed her case and called the patient in. This patient got the answer that she was looking for and felt so much more at ease thanks to Lori and her quick action. Congratulations, Lori!

3rd Quarter - Mandy Chesser, RN

Mandy Chesser, RN

Mandy Chesser, employee of third quarter, joined Gulf Coast Medical Center as an RN in 1998. Mandy was nominated by a patient's daughter, who was a newly diagnosed diabetic. While waiting on her mother; the daughter's blood sugar plummeted quickly and Mandy came to the rescue. Mandy escorted her to the cafeteria and took her to the front of the line to get food as quickly as possible. Before she returning to her department, Mandy sat with her while she ate and made sure she was feeling better before leaving. Thanks Mandy for being an exceptional example of the ICARE standards.

4th Quarter - Michael Carleton, Food Service Worker

Michael Carleton, Food Service Worker

Employee of the fourth quarter, Michael Carleton, is a Food Service Worker who went above and beyond his job description to assist a patient.  As reported by another employee, Michael was delivering a snack to a patient when she asked for a glass of water. Instead of passing the task off to the patients nurse, Michael located a cup on the unit and set it up within the patient's reach.  Although this isn’t “his job” he was more than willing to assist the patient in this small way.
