Philosophy:  Team work and dedication = optimum patient care.

Goals:  To be a CCRN certified staff in five years.  To move toward evidence based practice.

Special equipment:  New state of the art monitoring, non invasive cardiac output monitors.

Special training for new RNs: A structured preceptor and orientation program based on individual needs and experience.

What new hires expect on ICU:  ECCO for new graduates and nurses new to ICU, critical care course for nurses with less than five years ICU experience. CCRN review prep; structured preceptor and orientation program.

My management style: I have a very open door style. I recognize that my staff has a life away from work and I work with my staff on maintaining a work/life balance and to accommodate their individual needs.  One change we have implemented to assist with this is self-scheduling. I also state my expectations up front and believe in holding staff accountable. My employees have a voice and we are very collaborative and work to make changes for the better of the unit.

Bragging rights:  Our team work – it is second to none!
